Why Your New Year's Resolutions Fail—And How to Fix It.

Everyone faces the same problem that repeats every year.

After 2 weeks, we forget what we promised before December 31 of last year.

It might seem late to talk about New Year’s goals, but the key question is:

What determines whether we stick with a goal long enough to see success?

Every winner and loser has the same goal.

Everyone wants to become the new you in 2024, but many end up being the same person year after year.

What’s the real problem?

Is it a lack of discipline?
Is it insufficient knowledge?
Is it not having enough money?

Wrong

I’ve recently reflected on why I can’t change myself, although I workout almost every day, build my business along my 9-5, and keep learning something new.

I feel like I have to work endlessly.

But I don’t feel like I achieved anything.

To become the best version of yourself and achieve your goals:

Change your diet.
Change your actions.
Change how you dress.

Every aspect of yourself needs transformation for improvement.

And you have to be the best version of yourself to achieve your goals.

A set of habits that align and are done repeatedly in a way that works for you forms the system leading to success.

System > Goal

For example, if I want to have 11.11% body fat,

So, my system will involve cultivating healthy habits.

Cardio 150 mins/week
Workout 3-5 times/ week
Avoiding processed food
Prioritizing protein intake
Focusing on macro nutrition

Here’re 5 simple steps on how you can create your own system that you can stick with and help you become the best version of yourself.

1. Create Your Highest Vision

“How will you see yourself in 5 years?”

This question is often asked in job interviews.

It’s interesting that, at first, I thought that this question’s purpose was to make sure that you wouldn’t change your job recently after you got it.

Its true purpose is to explore your vision and your idea of winning.

Define what you call a win.

You can’t win if you don’t clarify your goal.

Imagine 10 years from now, with no limitations, envision your life—what you do, what you have. List out 10 things. This is your best self.

Turn these into projects, prioritize, and select one goal for the year. Break it down into your daily mission.

2. Start Your Personal Projects

Break down your 1-year goal
Into quarterly goal
Into monthly goal
Into weekly
Into daily

You don’t have to be serious because sometimes your goals will change in 1 day and that’s okay

Your perspective changes every moment. your adapt your plan according to the situation, you just grow up.

For example, if I want to launch my online course, here’s what I’m going to do:

Quarterly goal: Launch an online course

Monthly:

Set up email marketing software
Conduct marketing research
Outline beta version course and test with leads

Weekly goal:

Learn about email marketing
Choose software or online provider
Set up entire email marketing system
Daily tasks depend on the situation.

Mostly, these tasks adapt to the circumstances and your perspective as you grow.

The key is that you need to know what the task is that moves you from where you are now to where you want to be—the right lever.

“Goals are good for setting a direction, but systems are best for making progress.”-Jame Clear

3. Build Your Habit Systems

Everything won’t go as planned.

Life is full of variations. Waking up late, having a car break down, or staying late for work.

You can’t identify the distractions that you face every day.

Goal-setting and project management are top-down processes.

But your daily tasks and habits are bottom-up.

You have to build habits that move the right lever in every situation

This is what entrepreneurs are good at: “To do what works, get feedback, and iterate.”

The purpose of setting goals is to win the game. The purpose of building systems is to continue playing the game. True long-term thinking is goal-less thinking.

4. Make Your Progression Visible

The key to enjoying your game:

Feel progress.

But the world we live in is lack of indicator that will tell you where you are now, that why some time you feeling lost although you work really really hard

Journal is non-negotiable if you are building your online business.

You don’t have to spend hours to reflect your daily life, just 15 minutes with prompts like:

“What did I achieve today?”
“What can I improve tomorrow?”
“What is today’s daily highlight?”

I found interested prompt from Ali Abdaal:

“What will happen if I continue this route for 5 year”
“What will happen if I stop continue this route for 5 year”
“What will happen if I change the route to the opposite for 5 year”

These prompts navigate your present and ensure you reach your destination.

“Discipline is wasted if your destination is wrong.”

5. Keep iterating

The gap between you and your best self is skill sets.

To bridge the gap you need to treat life as a project, continue educating yourself, do a lot of experiments—be a mad scientist.

The fastest way to accelerate your life is to learn faster

Execute >Get feedback > Reflect > Iteration

Speed up this process, and you’ll see magic happen.

Goal planning is not a one-time decision, you refine it every moment of your life

To recap what I’ve said so far:

Create Your Highest Vision
Start Your Personal Projects
Build Your Habit Systems
Make Your Progression Visible
Keep itereating

Hope you have a great week
